A man from Winnipeg has been apprehended and is now facing charges following a car chase with the police that culminated in a vehicle crash. The chase was triggered by the presence of an incorrect license plate on the man’s vehicle.
The vehicle, a Dodge Ram, caught the attention of law enforcement officers due to the suspicious plates it bore. The incident unfolded near Logan Avenue and Sherbrook Street. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated, leading to a car chase.
The stolen vehicle, reported missing two days prior, was tracked down with the assistance of the Air1 helicopter. The chase ended when the vehicle collided at the intersection of Higgins Avenue and Main Street.
Following the collision, the driver attempted to escape on foot but was caught following a brief chase. A can of bear spray was discovered and seized at the scene by the officers.
The individual, a 29-year-old male, is now facing a number of charges. These include weapon possession, possession of property acquired by crime and violation of release conditions.
