In a discreet manner, Google has disclosed the cost for their newly launched video-generating AI model, Veo 2, first introduced in December.
As per the pricing details on the company’s website, the use of Veo 2 will be billed at a rate of 50 cents for every second of video, amounting to $30 per minute or $1,800 per hour. Jon Barron, a researcher from Google DeepMind, drew a comparison between this pricing and the production budget of the blockbuster movie “Avengers: Endgame”, which purportedly was around $356 million, translating to approximately $32,000 per second.
However, it’s important to note that clients might not utilize every second of the Veo-generated footage they pay for. Furthermore, it’s unlikely that Veo 2 will be churning out three-hour “Avengers” sagas in the near future. Google’s launch announcement underscored Veo 2’s capability to produce clips that are at least two minutes long.
For a cost comparison, OpenAI has recently provided access to its Sora video generation model for subscribers who are paying $200 a month for a ChatGPT Pro subscription.
