In a recent turn of events, Hong Kong’s Kowloon Reservoir’s water supply has been placed on a temporary halt by the local authorities. This decision is a result of a suspected car found in the depths of the reservoir, linked to a 2023 case involving a body found afloat.

The submerged vehicle, now rusted and overturned, was discovered by a passerby late Saturday evening. The location of this unusual revelation was near Kam Shan Tree Walk, situated within the Kam Shan Country Park. Witnesses also reported the sight of oil slicks on the water’s surface, adding to the suspicions.

Promptly responding to the situation, firefighters and divers were sent to the site. Despite thorough searches, the vehicle was found to be empty.

On Sunday, the Water Supplies Department declared a temporary pause in the utilization of the said reservoir. The department emphasized that a rigorous and comprehensive water quality assessment will be executed before reinstating the reservoir’s use.
