“Kaja Kallas, the leading diplomat of the European Union, stated on Monday that she has extended a warm invitation to Rubio to join in the usual gathering of EU’s foreign ministers. Kallas expressed her desire for Rubio to elucidate the standpoint of the United States during the meeting.
Rubio had earlier criticized the week’s assembly. However, Kallas revealed that they had a subsequent phone conversation where they discussed a range of issues – from Russia’s aggressive stance in Ukraine, the malevolent influence of Iran and the challenges presented by China.
When asked by POLITICO whether Rubio had plans to be present at the Brussels meeting scheduled for February 12, the U.S. State Department didn’t respond immediately.
The U.S. president has been vocal about his plans to swiftly end Russia’s all-out invasion after assuming power. Officials in Kyiv have been advocating for a peace agreement that ensures favorable conditions for Ukraine. Trump’s firm stance on Russia has won him praises from Ukrainian officials.
Rubio, earlier in January, said, “The goal is clear. We want to bring an end to the war. You heard the president, he wishes to be a peace-promoting president and put an end to conflicts, though it might be complex.”
He further added, “These are intricate matters. I can’t put a timeline on it, but what I can say is that whenever you aim to resolve a conflict between two parties who can’t achieve their ultimate goals, there will be compromises from both sides.”
