On January 17, at the Canada Life Place, the London Knights achieved a decisive victory against the Guelph Storm with a score of 6-0. The victory was powered by the stellar performance of Landon Sim who netted two goals, and the superb guarding of the net by Alexei Medvedev, who made 32 saves.
This impressive win positioned the Knights back at the top in the Ontario Hockey League standings, nudging them two points ahead of the Windsor Spitfires. The Knights have had a commendable run since October 20, with a record of 29 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw.
The game saw Medvedev making several significant saves early on, keeping the score at zero. Jacob Julien capitalized on one of these saves, gathering the rebound and passing it to Kasper Halttunen, who scored the first goal of the game.
The Knights continued to dominate the game, scoring twice more within 42 seconds. The first of these was made by Jared Woolley, followed by Sam Dickinson who extended the Knights’ lead to three goals. Dickinson also assisted in Woolley’s goal, pushing his season’s points to 51.
Will Nicholl and Landon Sim collaborated to score the fourth goal, with Sim now having scored in his last two games. Denver Barkey, the captain of the London Knights, scored the fifth goal, extending the Knights’ lead to 5-0.
The only goal in the final 20 minutes was made by Sim, thanks to a brilliant pass from Andoni Fimis. This brought the score to 6-0, giving the Knights a crushing victory.
Despite the loss, Guelph outshot London with a count of 32-31. However, both teams were unable to capitalize on their power plays, with the Knights and the Storm going 0-for-2 and 0-for-5 respectively.
The London Knights are set to face the Sudbury Wolves in their next match on January 19 at the Canada Life Place. The Wolves are a formidable team, boasting a strong offense and newly added defensemen. Nevertheless, the Knights’ impressive performance and strategic gameplay position them as tough competitors for the upcoming match.
