The Chilliwack RCMP cautions about potential e-scooter porch thieves in BC.

The Chilliwack, British Columbia division of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is alerting its citizens to stay vigilant with their deliveries this festive season due to the rise of porch bandits. Surveillance videos have captured alleged thieves on electric scooters, cruising around neighborhoods and swiping packages from unsuspecting homeowners’ porches.

The captured footage of these thefts has since been uploaded on various online platforms, showing what seems to be the same culprits committing multiple thefts. The RCMP was alerted to these activities when they received a report on December 15, involving two suspects who were seen removing a parcel from a home in the Sardis area.

A conscientious neighbor confronted the suspected thieves, who were then reported by the police to have returned the stolen package without any confrontation. The identities of these suspected porch pirates remain unknown to the police.

The RCMP is advising residents not to leave their packages outside for prolonged periods. They suggest the use of front door cameras if available, ensuring the functionality of porch lights, and cooperating with neighbors to keep a watchful eye on each other’s properties.

This advice is particularly relevant for individuals who are considering investing in home security systems or are interested in safeguarding their personal property. However, while this information is useful for potential investors, the primary purpose of this alert is to increase awareness and safety in the community during the holiday season.
