Saskatoon’s Reclaim Maternity Baby Kids clothing store announced its potential closure last week. The store hopes that a non-profit organization will take over its operations.

Janel Edwards, the owner of the store, mentioned that due to increasing costs, the store could not continue with its current staff. She said, “A drop of about 10 to 20 per cent in January, compared to where we are this December, would mean we would have to operate with a bare minimum team for about six months.”

The store issued a statement on social media expressing the necessity of the store for the community but also highlighting the importance of the mental health and financial future of the staff.

Since the announcement, the owner says that she has been contacted by several organizations interested in taking over the business. Meetings have been scheduled for the new year to discuss this further.

Reclaim is more than just a store, according to regular customer Jolene Prosser. It is a safe space for parents. In addition to selling used and new maternity and baby clothes, the store also hosts free parent meet-ups twice a week and has a donation bin for essential parenting items.
