Donald Trump has selected Kimberly Guilfoyle, a stalwart supporter and former Fox News host, to serve as the U.S. ambassador to Greece. Guilfoyle is well-known for her previous role as a Court TV anchor and fervent advocacy for Trump.
Trump took to social media on Tuesday to announce his decision. He referred to Guilfoyle as a “close friend and ally”, expressing confidence that she is the ideal candidate to strengthen U.S.-Greece relations.
Guilfoyle was previously romantically linked to Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son. However, recent images circulating in media outlets imply a potential romantic connection between Trump Jr. and socialite Bettina Anderson. The couple has not publicly confirmed any break-up, leaving their current relationship status uncertain.
Prior to her television career, Guilfoyle was a prosecutor in San Francisco and the wife of the city’s then-mayor, Gavin Newsom. Newsom, who is now the Democratic governor of California, is known for his strong criticism of President-elect Trump.
CBS was the first to break the news of Guilfoyle being in consideration for the ambassadorship in Athens.
Guilfoyle is not the first person close to the Trump family to be considered for a foreign policy role. Trump has also announced that Charles Kushner, father-in-law to Ivanka Trump, would serve as the ambassador to France. Additionally, Massad Boulos, Tiffany Trump’s father-in-law, has been named as Trump’s senior adviser on Arab and Middle Eastern affairs.
Guilfoyle’s nomination will need approval from the Senate. She might face some challenges due to allegations of abusive behavior towards her former assistant at Fox News.
