Squash enthusiasts don attire to fundraise for Operation Santa Claus in Hong Kong

Squash players, donning outfits depicting the Cookie Monster, Ken from Barbie, and a bottle of tomato ketchup, battled it out on the court to raise funds for a charitable cause. United by their passion for the sport and philanthropy, they participated in the 26th edition of the Wing Ding Charity tournament, a squash event which successfully raised over HK$339,000 (US$43,564) in support of Operation Santa Claus (OSC). This annual fundraising initiative, orchestrated by South China Morning Post and RTHK public broadcaster, aims to support local charities.

The previous year’s event saw a fundraising success of more than HK$450,000. Stephen Gollop, chairman of the charity subcommittee for the squash section of the Hong Kong Football Club, expressed the desire to extend this spirit of giving back to the broader squash community. The club is the coordinating body of the event.

The tournament is a tribute to Yuen Kam-wing, a cherished member of the Hong Kong Squash Centre with physical impairments, who passed away in 1998. This event is a testament to the power of sportsmanship and philanthropy, making it an attractive opportunity for those looking to invest in communities or simply fuel their interest in squash and charity.
