“Apple Isn’t Releasing a Revamped AirPods Max – Here’s Why”
Apple has no immediate plans to introduce an upgraded version of its AirPods Max, according to respected Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman in his recent “Power On” newsletter. This might come as a disappointment for those of you eagerly awaiting a new iteration of this premium product.
Back in September 2024, Apple did launch what was technically a new version of the AirPods Max, although the only notable change was swapping the Lightning port for USB-C. This minor modification may have led some to anticipate more substantial updates in the pipeline. Unfortunately, Gurman asserts that Apple has no immediate intentions to make any significant changes to the AirPods Max.
The lack of a new version could be interpreted in two ways. It could show that the current model is selling well, leaving Apple with no urgent need to introduce an upgrade. Alternatively, as Gurman suggests, the sales might be underwhelming, providing Apple with little incentive to put resources into an upgrade.
Interestingly, despite being the flagship headphones from Apple, the AirPods Max does not support some of Apple’s own Apple Music features, such as Adaptive Audio or Lossless audio quality. The absence of Lossless support is especially strange, considering that Apple Music started offering lossless-quality audio in 2021, roughly a year after the launch of AirPods Max.
Fast forward to four years later, and the AirPods Max, priced at $549, still run on the same H1 chip. Meanwhile, Apple has rolled out a newer H2 chip, which powers the AirPods Pro and the 4th generation AirPods.
Apart from the AirPods Max updates, Gurman’s newsletter also touched on the subject of Apple’s Siri. Apparently, the tech giant is preparing to overhaul its virtual assistant, making it more conversational. However, Gurman cautions that this update is unlikely to be rolled out before 2026.
In conclusion, while Apple may not be updating the AirPods Max anytime soon, the company continues to innovate and improve its other products, keeping tech enthusiasts and potential investors on their toes.
