Title: The Unyielding Battle Against Misconduct and Excesses Continues
Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee, has emphasized that the ongoing crusade against unacceptable working styles must persist. This statement was in response to a piece by the Xinhua News Agency, highlighting the emergence of new forms of misconduct.
Xi, who also holds the positions of President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, noted that these emerging issues are fundamentally rooted in old problems. In his directive, he underscored the need for strict action against persistent and recurring undesirable work practices, such as pointless formalities, bureaucratism, hedonism, and lavishness.
Xi Jinping insisted that the efforts to rectify such irregularities should never cease, and the endeavor to enhance the Party’s conduct and working styles should be continuous. He urged Party and government bodies across all regions and sectors to scrutinize their performance in this area and implement tangible measures to address issues, particularly the glaring ones like seeking excessive publicity without substantial practice and execution.
Xi also implored high-ranking officials to spearhead this campaign. He stressed that pointless formalities should be strictly avoided, especially in the upcoming Communist Party of China’s campaign focused on remaining faithful to their foundational mission.
The Xinhua piece highlighted that despite significant progress in combating undesirable work styles, challenges persist. Some officials continue to carry out superficial work in their research and inspections. There are instances of Party and governmental organizations and their employees feigning concern for the public without doing practical work that serves the people.
The article also illuminated issues where local governments focus more on pleasing higher officials than satisfying their people. Cases of officials shirking responsibilities and exhibiting sloth, inaction, duplicity, and double-dealing were also pointed out.
The Communist Party of China’s Central Committee General Office issued a circular urging all Party and governmental agencies to promptly study and implement Xi’s directive. It urged them to diligently identify new forms of undesirable work styles, correct them resolutely, and make substantial improvements in this area.
Emphasizing that the upcoming New Year and Spring Festival season will be a critical juncture in this battle, the circular directed authorities to prevent the resurgence of misconduct and to uphold and enhance the progress made in implementing the central Party leadership’s eight-point decision on enhancing Party and government conduct.
