I recently got to know about NiHowdy from a colleague. It’s a platform that allows you to save on prescription medication and earn bitcoin rewards simultaneously.
Being a fan of bitcoin rewards programs like Fold, where you get to earn bitcoin for regular purchases, I was intrigued by NiHowdy’s unique proposition. Growing up, I was always fascinated by my mom’s talent for finding the best deals with her coupon-clipping skills. What sets NiHowdy apart is that it offers discounts on a product, in addition to bitcoin rewards.
Though I haven’t used NiHowdy yet, the process seems straightforward. You just need to register on their website to get a discount card or a QR code. This can be used at selected pharmacies. You can also use the website to compare prices and find the most affordable places to buy prescription medication. They’re also planning to launch a mail-order service soon.
When you pay for your prescription, you earn 3% back in bitcoin, which gets automatically deposited into your Coinbase account. Although I would have liked it if NiHowdy had teamed up with a different exchange, given my discomfort with Coinbase’s collaboration with government agencies to track transactions, this isn’t a significant deterrent for me.
NiHowdy views itself as a warrior against Big Pharma…
At Nihowdy, we believe we’re more than just a prescription savings platform. We see ourselves as warriors in the battle against big pharma, fighting for your right to reclaim the savings that rightfully belong to you. #NiHowdy #PrescriptionSavings

Even though their claim might be a little overstated, NiHowdy does seem to offer a feasible way of saving money on prescription drug costs while accumulating bitcoin rewards.
The best scenario would be if you could use your Fold debit card to pay for your prescriptions, earning extra bitcoin rewards in addition to the 3% you get back from NiHowdy.
If this becomes a reality, I might get so excited that I’ll need to go refill my sedative prescription.
