Renowned Edmonton’s Remedy Cafe is on the Market – Edmonton

For sale: A beloved Edmonton eatery, known for its distinctive homemade chai tea and delectable menu inspired by Pakistani and Indian cuisine. Remedy Cafe is on the market for an asking price of nearly $8 million.

Sohail “Zee” Zaidi, the owner of Remedy Cafe, is ready to pass on the mantle after 23 successful years. Zaidi has made a name for himself and his cafe among locals, who often frequent the cafe for its unique blends and delicious menu. However, as Zaidi approaches his 60th birthday, he has decided to retire, honouring a promise he made to his wife.

Zaidi’s journey to Edmonton has been a globe-trotting adventure, having lived in various parts of the world like Singapore, Germany, Texas and New York City. Once he settled in Edmonton, he took over Remedy Cafe’s 109th Street and 86th Avenue location, turning it into a thriving business.

Remedy Cafe’s popularity quickly grew, and today, it has multiple locations throughout Edmonton’s core and south side, as well as in Sherwood Park. Despite the initial challenges in running a cafe, Zaidi’s dedication and determination led to the cafe’s success.

The asking price of $7.6 million includes the leases of Remedy Cafe’s 11 locations along with all the equipment inside. The deal also includes selected recipes, which have been a major part of the cafe’s success.

Real estate agent Terrie Reekie, who is handling the sale, says that the listing has attracted significant attention, not just from Edmonton, but also across Canada and the U.S. The sale has also sparked an outpouring of memories and emotional attachments from Edmontonians.

Regular customers of Remedy Cafe are unfazed by the impending change in ownership. For many, the cafe’s ambiance and community engagement are far more significant. The cafe is particularly popular for its warm, welcoming atmosphere and its role as a valued member of the Edmonton community.

Zaidi is hopeful that the new owners will continue to expand and enhance the Remedy Cafe brand while maintaining the sense of community that has been integral to the cafe’s success. Even after his retirement, Zaidi plans to remain involved in some capacity.

The sale of Remedy Cafe represents a unique opportunity for potential investors. It’s not just about acquiring a successful business, but also about becoming a part of Edmonton’s vibrant and close-knit community.
