The growing concern over the influence of smartphones on the mental health, body image perception, and digital habits of children and young adults has been extensively studied. In response to these concerns, HMD unveiled the Fusion X1 at the MWC 2025. The device is designed to provide a safer digital environment for young users.
HMD claims that the Fusion X1 is equipped with state-of-the-art parental controls integrated at the operating system level. This feature allows parents to regulate their children’s access to certain applications and internet browsing. They can also set limits on social media usage and implement screen time boundaries.
The Xplora app forms the core of these safety measures and age-appropriate wellness controls. It enables parents to modify the settings of the device and adjust usage in real-time.
Parents can remotely access their child’s Fusion X1, which also includes an emergency SOS call function. A unique feature, School Mode, limits access to certain apps and functionalities to ensure children remain focused during school hours.
Despite being targeted at a younger demographic, the Fusion X1 doesn’t compromise on its hardware specifications. It features a 108-megapixel camera and a robust 5,000mAh battery, providing all-day usage. Additionally, the phone retains the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Fusion X1 boasts a 6.56-inch front display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Internally, it houses the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC by Qualcomm, supported by 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
HMD will also offer “outfits” for the Fusion X1. These modular accessories attach to the back of the phone and include items like a Ring light, durable case with a built-in battery, or a gamepad. They connect via a pin-based system.
The Fusion X1 is expected to be priced at around GBP 229 (roughly $288) and is set to hit the market in April or May, depending on the region. This smartphone promises to be a great investment for parents concerned about their children’s digital habits.
