A shocking new footage of a fatal crash that resulted in three deaths and shut down Pattullo Bridge in Metro Vancouver for over 12 hours on Friday night has surfaced. The unfortunate incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday when a white private car collided with an oncoming semi-truck.
Tragically, three young men aged 19 and 20, who were in the car, lost their lives at the site of the accident. A fourth occupant of the car was critically injured but managed to survive the crash.
The dash-cam footage from the semi-truck has recently been released, providing a clearer picture of the accident’s sequence of events. The video shows the truck heading south when the white passenger vehicle, traveling in the opposite direction, suddenly spins out of control and crosses the centerline, crashing into the truck.
The truck narrowly avoids another vehicle as it swerves into the northbound lanes before coming to a halt. S/Sgt. Lindsey Houghton of the Surrey Police Service revealed that it could take days or weeks for the investigators to unravel the exact cause of the crash.
The footage is a crucial part of the ongoing investigation, with the authorities looking at various factors including the possibility of the car’s speed or the influence of alcohol as potential contributing factors to the collision.
The survivor of the crash was admitted to hospital with life-threatening injuries and has since been stabilized. The semi-truck driver remained unscathed and stayed at the scene, assisting the police with their inquiries.
This tragic incident comes just three weeks after a woman lost her life in a similar head-on collision on the same bridge. As a response to these incidents, construction is underway for a new Pattullo Bridge, which is expected to open for traffic later this year.
