Elon Musk Reveals New Grok 3 and Advanced ‘Deep Search’ Instrument

On Tuesday, Elon Musk, the tech magnate widely recognized for his role in the US government, took a break from his government duties to introduce the latest version of xAI’s AI chatbot, Grok 3. This introduction was done via a livestream on X, a platform owned by Musk himself.

In addition to Musk, the event was attended by xAI co-founders Jimmy Ba and Yuhuai “Tony” Wu, as well as lead engineer Igor Babuschkin. They all provided in-depth insights into the enhanced reasoning capabilities, speed, and expanded training of Grok 3.

“We’re extremely thrilled to introduce Grok 3, which we believe is tenfold more proficient than Grok 2, and in such a short span of time,” Musk stated. “Our squad has been working extremely hard over the past few months to enhance Grok as much as possible, with the aim of making it accessible to all.”

The upgraded Grok model, succeeding Grok-2, is now accessible to all paid subscribers holding a Premium+ X account.

During the demonstration, Ba claimed that Grok 3, codenamed “chocolate”, had been put through its paces on the LMSYS leaderboard, a system designed for evaluating large language models (LLMs). He stated that even the initial versions of Grok 3 had outperformed competitors such as Gemini-2 Pro, DeepSeek-V3, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and GPT-4o.

Grok 3 arrives after the standalone iOS application for the chatbot was launched in January. The AI chatbot, Grok, was first introduced in December 2023, a few months after Musk inaugurated xAI in July 2023. Despite its success, it has faced some controversies, particularly concerning the generation of misleading headlines promoted on X’s Explore trending news segment.

To demonstrate the reasoning prowess of Grok 3 in physics, Babuschkin requested the AI chatbot to “generate code for an animated 3D plot of a launch from earth landing on mars and then back to earth at the next launch window.”

Another highlight of the demonstration was the creation of a fusion game between Tetris and Bejeweled, written by Grok 3. Musk lauded this as “the inception of creativity.”

Ba also announced the introduction of a new “Deep Search” tool, powered by Grok, that will serve as a “next-generation search engine”. This tool, according to Ba, will not only assist engineers, researchers, and scientists with coding but also help answer everyday queries.

Musk’s involvement in the AI sector, particularly through the development of AI chatbot Grok, continues to make waves in the tech world. His efforts in this area are closely watched by investors and those interested in the advancements of AI technology.
