The iconic character Ethan Hunt, portrayed by Tom Cruise, has been a staple in the Mission: Impossible franchise since its inception in 1996. Hunt has always kept his group tight-knit, either operating alone or with a select few trusted allies. However, following the events of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Hunt’s team experiences a shift in dynamics. As the latest Super Bowl trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning reveals, there are two unexpected additions to Ethan’s team.
Long-term characters Luther Stickell, played by Ving Rhames, and Benji Dunn, enacted by Simon Pegg, have been constants throughout the series. In Dead Reckoning, a new character Grace, a thief turned ally, played by Hayley Atwell, joined the IMF. The latest additions to Hunt’s team are quite surprising. One is Paris, a character from the previous movie played by Pom Klementieff, who despite being critically injured, has managed a comeback, potentially seeking her own redemption.
The other fresh face in Ethan’s team is Degas, brought to life by Greg Tarzan Davis, a character making his debut in The Final Reckoning. Degas has his own motivations for siding with Ethan, regardless of the potential backlash as being labeled a traitor to the U.S.
In addition to these new additions, a few familiar faces from the past movies will be reprising their roles in The Final Reckoning. This includes the White Widow, Alanna Mitsopolis (Vanessa Kirby), CIA director Eugene Kittridge (Henry Czerny), CIA analyst William Donloe (Rolf Saxon), and President Erika Sloane (Angela Bassett).
The Super Bowl trailer gives a sneak peek into the film, revealing Ethan’s daring venture into a submerged submarine in search of a weapon against the A.I. known as The Entity. Also showcased is a heart-stopping biplane stunt at 10,000 feet that caused Cruise to faint during filming.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is slated for release in theaters on May 23. This article is perfect for those who are fans of the franchise, or for those who are considering a foray into the thrilling world of Mission: Impossible.
