The song ‘Hot For You, Baby’, which was lost for several years, has been found recently. Today, it will be broadcast for the first time, and it will also be included in a special edition album commemorating the 40th anniversary of Tina Turner’s most iconic work.
A long-lost track from Tina Turner’s fifth album, ‘Private Dancer’, has recently been discovered. ‘Hot For You, Baby’ was supposed to be included in the album’s final release but was omitted and was thought to be lost for decades. However, as preparations were underway for a special 40th anniversary edition of ‘Private Dancer’, the master tape of the song was found.
The song will be premiered on UK’s radio stations today. It will also be part of the anniversary album, which is set to include other previously unreleased tracks, live performances, and a film of Turner’s concert at Birmingham’s NEC Arena in 1985. The concert featured special performances by David Bowie and Bryan Adams. The special edition album will be released in March.
The album ‘Private Dancer’ was pivotal in defining Tina Turner’s career. After escaping an abusive marriage with Ike Turner and facing financial struggles, her fortunes started to change when Capitol Records gave her a two-week recording studio slot. The result was ‘Private Dancer’, a sensual, soulful LP that launched her solo career.
The album achieved global acclaim and commercial success, featuring timeless hits such as ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’, ‘Show Some Respect’, ‘Better Be Good To Me’, ‘I Can’t Stand The Rain’, and the title track. The album was hailed as one of the greatest comebacks in music history, selling over 10 million copies and earning three Grammys. By 1985, Turner had become one of the world’s biggest stars.
‘Private Dancer’ remains her best-selling album in North America and in 2020, it was chosen for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress.
Tina Turner passed away at her Swiss home on 24 May 2023, at the age of 83. She had battled several severe health problems throughout her life, including kidney disease and intestinal cancer.
