Social networking platform X is capitalizing on the opportunity created by the removal of ByteDance applications like TikTok and Lemon8 from U.S. app stores. They are doing this by unveiling a dedicated vertical video feed.
The social media giant is introducing a video tab at the bottom bar of its app for American users. This feature will allow users to swiftly access video content available on the platform.
The company stated in a Sunday post, “A new immersive home for videos is being introduced to our US users today.”
X users currently have the ability to browse short videos by tapping on a video in the timeline and scrolling upwards. This new video tab is simply a dedicated area for these types of videos. However, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the company’s first attempt at creating a new hub for videos.
A reverse engineer of the app had given a sneak peek of a media tab for videos earlier, but this is the first time company X is making a formal announcement.
Recently, the social media platform has been honing its focus on video experiences. In the previous year, it rolled out a standalone TV app that showcases videos from various organizations and creators.
With TikTok facing turbulence in the U.S., other social networks are seizing the opportunity to fill the void left by the uncertainty around ByteDance apps in the U.S. Meta has unveiled a video editing app named Edits to rival ByteDance’s CapCut, whereas X’s competitor Bluesky has rolled out a custom feed for vertical videos.
This development could be interesting for potential investors or those who have an interest in the social media industry, although the primary purpose of this article is to inform and update about the latest trends and developments in the social media landscape.
