“Until recently, the two gentlemen seemed to be on friendly terms, as evidenced by their joint appearance at U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s Florida-based Mar-a-Lago estate last month. However, the relationship soured when Farage chose to distance himself from controversial far-right figure Tommy Robinson, leading to a fall out between him and the billionaire.
Elon Musk, known for his outspoken nature, is known to be a supporter of Robinson. Robinson, the founder of the right-wing English Defense League, is currently behind bars in the UK due to contempt of court charges. His controversial stance has sparked a division within the Reform party, with members torn between supporting or rejecting him.
Earlier this week, Howard Cox, the party’s 2024 London mayoral hopeful, stepped down from his position within the Reform party due to disagreements with his colleagues over his support for Robinson’s cause.
The internal disagreement within the party has come to the fore, with outgoing Reform councillors suggesting that the party’s former joint deputy leader, Ben Habib, should take the reins. Habib views Robinson as a “political prisoner,” and Musk has recently shared several of Habib’s posts calling for Robinson’s release.
In a recent media interaction on Friday, Farage dismissed the idea of stepping down and described the critical councillors as a “rogue branch” that had not been thoroughly screened. Despite the fallout, Farage maintains that he continues to be in contact with Musk and considers him a friend.”
