Lenovo is making waves in the tech industry with its innovative and ground-breaking laptop designs. The Beijing-based tech giant has consistently wowed crowds at the CES tech show annually. Its previous releases include the 2020 ThinkBook Plus with an “E Ink” display on its cover, the dual-screened Yoga Book 9i and the twistable ThinkBook Plus launched in 2023, and last year’s ThinkBook that boasted snap-on attachments.
At the 2025 CES tech show, Lenovo plans to maintain its momentum with the official release of the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable. This new business laptop, touted as “the world’s first rollable display AI PC”, was initially presented as a concept two years ago. It is now set to hit the market in the coming months.
During a hands-on demo of the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, it was noted that the OLED display does not roll up like a scroll or burrito as the name suggests. Despite this, it presents a sleek, well-crafted option for professionals with a penchant for multitasking and creatives who need a little extra padding in their pockets.
Lenovo has stated that they are keen on exploring different ways to utilize OLED displays due to their thin and flexible nature. A mechanism within the laptop’s hinge allows an extension of the display to slide out from its base, tucked neatly between the keyboard and motherboard. The extended display offers almost 50% more screen space, accommodating two or three stacked windows.
Users can extend or retract the display by pressing a key or by gesturing with their palm near the top of the screen. The sliding process is halted if the laptop’s screen is tilted too far forward.
When fully extended, the display is notably rigid and devoid of any visible creases. The display’s size has been increased from the initial prototype, from 12.7 inches to 14 inches when at rest, and from 15.3 inches to 16.7 inches when fully extended. This adjustment, according to Lenovo, is ideal for productivity and vertical video viewing.
Aside from its unique expanding display, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 boasts next-gen Copilot+ PC specs. It features an Intel Core Ultra 7 Series 2 processor, up to 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of SSD storage. Additionally, it includes Intel Arc graphics and a 5MP webcam. It’s 0.78 inches thick, weighs 3.73 pounds, and comes in a sleek Luna Grey.
The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, with its innovative expanding display, will be available in the first quarter of 2025 with a starting price of $3,499. Whether the unique expanding display feature justifies its price remains a personal consideration for potential buyers.
