Three Must-Watch Romantic Comedies on Netflix for January 2025

Welcome to the future, 2025 to be exact. The trend of Christmas-themed romantic comedies is on the decline. However, if you are a Lindsay Lohan fan, you can continue to enjoy her films. Post-holiday months usually lack new rom-com releases, but there are some classic options available on Netflix such as Notting Hill, iconic for the 90s, and other recommendations include a teen comedy from the 80s and a wedding adventure.

We also have tips for the best films to stream this week. You can find the best options on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Max, and Disney+.

Sixteen Candles (2024)

Prior to 1984, John Hughes was primarily known for his writing on Mr. Mom and National Lampoon’s Vacation. His directorial debut, Sixteen Candles, sparked his legendary series of coming-of-age films. The story revolves around Samantha (Molly Ringwald) who is about to celebrate her 16th birthday. Unfortunately, her family gets distracted by her sister’s wedding, reducing her important day to an afterthought.

Samantha’s one wish is to captivate her crush, Jake Ryan (Michael Schoeffling). However, a nerd named Ted (Anthony Michael Hall) is the only one showing interest in her. Sixteen Candles is a sweet film with a sincere conclusion.

You can stream Sixteen Candles on Netflix.

Notting Hill (1999)

Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts are undoubtedly romantic comedy legends. Their combined charisma in Notting Hill resulted in it becoming the seventh-highest-grossing film of 1999. The story follows William Thacker (Grant), a London bookstore owner who has been left by his wife. When American actress Anna Scott (Roberts) walks into his bookstore, they instantly connect.

A spilled juice incident leads to a kiss, which in turn leads to a successful date. Despite being from different worlds, they genuinely like each other. The iconic “I’m just a girl” speech still tugs at the heartstrings more than two decades later.

You can stream Notting Hill on Netflix.

Love Wedding Repeat (2020)

The concept of time-loop gets a fresh take in Love Wedding Repeat. Instead of one character reliving the same day, various characters experience alternate versions of the same wedding. The main character is Jack (Sam Claflin), the brother of the bride, Hayley (Eleanor Tomlinson). He gets another chance to express his feelings to Hayley’s roommate, Dina (Olivia Munn), at the wedding.

However, history repeats itself and unfortunate circumstances again disrupt Jack’s chance to reconnect with Dina. Despite numerous versions of the wedding, Jack only needs the right one for things to work out.

Love Wedding Repeat is available for streaming on Netflix.
