Over the years, the distinction between large smartphones and small tablets has become increasingly blurred as devices have progressively grown in size. While there are a few exceptions, the trend generally leans towards larger devices.
One such example of this trend is Samsung’s tablet lineup. The company introduced the Galaxy Tab S10 series in October, replacing the standard Galaxy Tab S9. The Galaxy Tab S10 Plus and S10 Ultra are the successors to the previous models, leaving Galaxy Tab S9 users with the choice of purchasing the FE series or exploring other alternatives.
One such alternative is the OnePlus Pad 2. Although larger than the Galaxy Tab S9, it’s slightly smaller than the Tab S10 Plus. After using it for a few months, it’s clear that the OnePlus Pad 2 is a remarkable device. It strikes a perfect balance between productivity, portability, and power. Additionally, some of OnePlus’ signature features, such as super-fast charging, give it an edge over its competition.
Despite sharing some of the common drawbacks of Android tablets, such as a lower overall app quality compared to the iPad, OnePlus has crafted a winning formula. Here’s why the OnePlus Pad 2 remains my top choice for an Android tablet in 2025.
The OnePlus Pad 2 continues the OnePlus legacy by offering flagship specifications in a budget-friendly form. It boasts the latest tech, impressive battery life, and super-fast charging. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, paired with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and storage options of 128GB or 256GB.
The OnePlus Pad 2 is slightly heavier than Samsung’s newest tablet. However, its smaller size and friendly aspect ratio make it easy to carry. OnePlus has done an excellent job crafting a tablet that feels comfortable in the hand.
The OnePlus Pad 2 also offers a fantastic media and gaming experience, thanks to its focus on display and media playback. With Dolby Vision support, a 144Hz refresh rate, and 900 nits peak brightness, it’s designed for media, gaming, and everything in between.
The OnePlus Pad 2 keyboard makes typing enjoyable again, with a soft finish on the keys, a springy action, and good key travel. However, OnePlus made a significant change by switching to a smart keyboard style, which isn’t ideally suited for use on the go.
The OnePlus Pad 2 is compatible with the OnePlus Stylo 2, the company’s equivalent to the Apple Pencil. The tablet also offers excellent multitasking features with a larger display.
The OnePlus Pad 2 offers great value for money. In the U.S., the higher-spec version, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, costs $550. The OnePlus Pad Smart Keyboard costs an additional $135, while the OnePlus Stylo 2 costs $100.
In comparison to the Android space, it’s the same price as the Galaxy Tab S9 FE Plus but less than half the price of the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus. For those looking for an iPad alternative, the OnePlus Pad 2 is similar to the iPad Air.
The OnePlus Pad 2 has earned its spot in my essential tech bag. It is an Android tablet that I actively prefer over my iPad. The only feature I miss is the Magnetic Keyboard.
