Explosion of a Cybertruck near Vegas Trump Hotel results in one fatality and seven injuries

A Tesla Cybertruck exploded and went up in flames near the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, leading to one fatality and several injuries, as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

According to Sheriff Kevin McMahill, seven individuals sustained minor injuries and are presently receiving medical treatment at nearby hospitals, disclosed during a press conference.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be established, and it’s uncertain if they were male or female, McMahill mentioned. A bystander captured the incident from within the hotel lobby and shared it on a social media platform, stating that the vehicle pulled up and then “exploded.” This footage, along with others, quickly went viral.

The investigation is ongoing with several leads being followed, according to McMahill. Governor Joe Lombardo confirmed that his office was in collaboration with the LVMPD and other agencies.

McMahill acknowledged the recent fatal incident in New Orleans that resulted in at least 15 deaths during the press conference. While he didn’t directly link the two events, he emphasized that law enforcement was taking necessary safety measures.

“We’re fully cognizant of the tragedy in New Orleans and the number of victims there, coupled with the additional IEDs,” he commented. “Given the explosion here on the iconic Las Vegas Boulevard, we’re implementing all necessary precautions to ensure our community’s safety.”

McMahill also mentioned that law enforcement was on the lookout for secondary devices, assuring that there doesn’t seem to be any additional threat to the community at the moment. “If there’s a change in the situation, I’ll promptly update you,” he added.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, took to social media to share updates about the incident. He initially stated that the “entire senior Tesla team is probing” the incident.

“Will update with more details as soon as we have them. This is a first for us,” Musk shared.

Musk later confirmed that according to the vehicle’s telemetry data, the vehicle was functioning normally at the time of the explosion.

“Our analysis has confirmed that the blast was triggered by large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck, and it’s not related to the vehicle itself. The vehicle’s telemetry was in perfect condition at the time of the blast,” he wrote.

This occurrence comes as Musk, who also owns X, remains closely linked to President-elect Donald Trump. Musk’s flight data indicates at least 31 trips to or from Trump’s Florida property, Mar-a-Lago. The NYT recently reported that Musk has been residing at a cottage on the Mar-a-Lago estate.
