Rescue teams locate remains of second individual lost in Lions Bay landslide – British Columbia

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Village of Lions Bay have confirmed the recovery of the second body following a devastating landslide that destroyed their home.

Mayor Ken Berry of Lions Bay informed the community that the remains of Barbara Enns were located on December 21st after an extensive and skillful search operation. The body of David Enns had been found earlier on December 15th, a day after the landslide occurred.

“This tragic event has deeply affected the family, friends, neighbors, and the entire community of Lions Bay,” expressed Berry.

He added, “We mourn together and extend our heartfelt condolences to the grieving family.”

The landslide on December 14th caused a massive flow of debris, trees, and mud onto the Sea To Sky Highway, resulting in its closure for almost a day.

Two houses on Goldenrod Avenue are still under evacuation orders, while three properties on Brunswick Beach Road remain on evacuation alert. The local state of emergency declared on December 15th is still in effect in the village.
