Famed technology vlogger, Marques Brownlee, recently revealed his top pick for the premium smartphone of 2024, and surprisingly, it’s not an iPhone. In his latest video, watched by nearly 20 million followers, Brownlee applauded various high-end smartphones before announcing his ultimate choice.
Brownlee’s evaluation criteria are based on rewarding comprehensive excellence. During the video, he sat at a table filled with smartphones that were launched in the past year, meticulously outlining the features of each one.
Among the shortlisted contenders, Vivo X200 Pro was commended for its comprehensive features including a super bright screen, powerful chipset, impressive camera capabilities, long battery life, and rapid charging. The only drawback, according to Brownlee, was the absence of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, although the device does include a commendable MediaTek chip.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold also earned a place in Brownlee’s list, mainly for its significant improvement over previous models in the Pixel Fold series. He appreciated the foldable phone so much that he uses it on a daily basis.
The standard iPhone 16 garnered praise as the “most complete base iPhone ever made,” with Brownlee noting that it was a fantastic year to own an iPhone without having to spend an exorbitant amount. He further highlighted his current go-to device, the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, for its extended battery life.
After deliberating over these impressive devices, Brownlee finally crowned the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra as the best smartphone of 2024.
He showered the Galaxy S24 Ultra with praise, loving its superior screen, chip, battery, cameras, software, support, durability, and even its above-average anti-reflective coating on the screen. He emphasized that he has returned to this phone more than any other device after reviewing it over the past seven years.
However, Brownlee also mentioned that this might seem like a “boring choice” to some, as the design has remained unchanged since the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
In a separate review, Digital Trends declared the Galaxy S24 Ultra as the “best Ultra ever,” attributing its success not to design changes but to new features, technology, and lifestyle-enhancing alterations. This sentiment is something that Brownlee wholeheartedly agreed with, cementing the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s position as the top smartphone of 2024.
