The Toronto Raptors continue to be plagued by a series of injuries. All-star forward, Scottie Barnes, was the latest casualty, spraining his right ankle during the Raptors’ match against the New York Knicks. This unfortunate incident took place in the third quarter of the game, which ended with the Raptors losing 113-108. Despite playing only 23 minutes, Barnes had to leave the game due to his injury. This is yet another setback for the Raptors, who have not been able to play a single game this season with their preferred starting lineup.
However, Raptors’ Head Coach, Darko Rajakovic, remains undeterred. He believes that injuries are part of the game and are beyond anyone’s control. He remains confident in his team’s ability to face these challenges head-on.
Barnes, who was the only all-star from Toronto last season, was injured while attempting to block a shot from Knicks’ forward, Karl-Anthony Towns. Despite the injury, Barnes managed to score 15 points, with five rebounds and three assists.
The Raptors’ forward RJ Barrett, who scored a high of 30 points during the game, mentioned that Barnes’s injury was a tough blow. However, he also acknowledged that the team played well overall, despite the closely contested game.
According to Coach Rajakovic, Barnes’s ankle X-rays came back negative. His condition will be re-evaluated soon. The team remains hopeful and ready to step up in Barnes’s absence.
The Knicks’ forward, Towns, played a crucial role in leading his team to victory. He scored a double-double, with 24 points and 15 rebounds. The Raptors, on the other hand, ended their five-game homestand with a 2-3 record.
The Raptors’ starting lineup, which includes Barnes, Barrett, and point guard Immanuel Quickley, has not seen the court together in 47 consecutive games. This is largely due to the string of injuries that have plagued the team.
Despite the challenges, the Raptors remain undeterred. The team believes in its ability to overcome these obstacles and continues to work hard. Barnes, who has been injured earlier this season, continues to remain an integral part of the team.
The Raptors will next be seen facing the Miami Heat, while the Knicks will host the Atlanta Hawks. This report was first published by The Canadian Press on Dec. 9, 2024.
