After a significant period of preparation and financial support from Sinopec, the Hong Kong Sea School recently debuted their brand-new, state-of-the-art Sinopec Training Hub with a grand unveiling ceremony attended by hundreds of guests.

The impressive 400-square-meter hub is located on the ground floor of the school’s multi-purpose annex. It’s designed to be versatile and is equipped with around three dozen different pieces of equipment, ready to cater to the school’s 700 students. The hub can comfortably accommodate up to 50 students at any given time, under the supervision of a physical education instructor. The Sinopec Training Hub makes history as the first comprehensive physical fitness training center in the 78-year history of the school.

The opening ceremony was hosted by the Hong Kong Sea School at the scenic Stanley waterfront, in recognition of Sinopec’s generous support. The ceremony was graced by Dr Karl Kwok, Vice-President of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, and attended by key officials from various departments of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Regional Government. The event was a significant attraction, drawing in numerous guests from various governmental offices, sports community, and members of Sinopec Hong Kong.

During the ceremony, Mr Jiang Zhenying, Deputy Chief Economist of Sinopec Group and Chief Representative of Sinopec Hong Kong Office, lauded the Hong Kong Sea School’s contributions, acknowledging that the school has been a source of talent for various industries in Hong Kong. He emphasized the school’s well-earned reputation as a reliable talent pool for the city’s maritime industry, the government’s various disciplinary forces, the local sports community, and across industries for decades.

Mr Jiang also expressed admiration for the school’s dedication to providing excellent learning opportunities for young individuals from low-income or disadvantaged families, equipping them with the skills and abilities needed to succeed and contribute to society. He anticipates that the Sinopec Training Hub will aid the school in implementing a scientific and systematic physical training program, enhance the school’s physical education standard, promote the students’ health, and better equip them for their future endeavors. Looking forward, Jiang expressed his commitment to work collaboratively with the broader community to support less privileged students.
