Title: Hong Kong Authorities Issue Warning over Potentially Hazardous Children’s Stress Relief Toy
Hong Kong’s customs department issued a public alert on Friday about a potentially dangerous stress-relief toy intended for kids, which reportedly includes a syringe. The department called on retailers to promptly discontinue the sale of this product.
The alert was triggered by public grievances indicating that a local merchant had been selling the controversial toy. Despite rigorous inspections in several districts, the customs officials have not yet been able to locate the item in question.
A spokesperson for the Customs and Excise Department stated that they would maintain a close watch on market activities and enhance surveillance measures. They assured that stringent enforcement actions would be taken if the item is discovered.
Although no visual evidence or footage of the alleged item was shared by the department, information about the product, which supposedly includes a mini inflatable doll and a syringe, was shared in online parent chat groups.
According to the circulated message, a student in Sham Shui Po purchased the item for roughly HK$5 (US 64 cents). A video accompanying the message demonstrated that the syringe could be used to inflate different components of the toy.
The customs department strongly urged parents to prevent their children from using the toy and advised retailers to promptly take the product off their shelves.
In a world increasingly concerned about safety, such incidents highlight the importance of thorough product checks, not just for international investors eyeing the retail market, but also for everyday consumers.
