Knights triumph over Owen Sound, setting a new benchmark in teddy bear collection and maintaining two major runs – London

The London Knights have made history by setting a new record of teddy bear donations and extending their winning streak to 19 games, after a 3-0 triumph over the Owen Sound Attack on December 4, at the Canada Life Place.

The Knights of 2024-25 outpaced the 2004-05 Century Team, securing the fifth-longest winning streak in the history of the Ontario Hockey League. In the process, they gathered a record-breaking 15,926 teddy bears for the Salvation Army.

Notably, Easton Cowan extended his point streak to 55 consecutive regular season games and Austin Elliott maintained his undefeated record in the Knights’ crease, earning his second OHL shutout.

The Attack’s goalie, Carter George, proved to be a formidable opponent for the Knights’ shooters in their bid to score the Teddy Bear Toss goal in 2024. Despite George’s 25 saves in the first 27 minutes of the game, Knights’ forward Landon Sim managed to score, triggering the teddy bear toss.

Shortly after, Cowan equaled Doug Gilmour’s record when he assisted on Sam O’Reilly’s seventh goal in his last seven games, taking the score to 2-0 in favor of London.

The Knights seemed to have extended their lead to 3-0 with a strategic pass between Blake Montgomery and Will Nicholl. However, a video review indicated offside play. Nonetheless, London did increase their lead later in the second period, with Cowan assisting O’Reilly and Barkey to score in a two-on-one situation.

Elliott made an additional six saves in the final 20 minutes to seal the victory. The Knights had a zero success rate on the power play, but successfully defended a penalty. London dominated the game with 48 shots on goal compared to Owen Sound’s 23.

In terms of awards, the Knights have dominated the weekly and monthly OHL honors. Blake Montgomery was named OHL Player of the Week after achieving eight points in three games. Alexei Medvedev won Rookie and Goalie of the Week for his performances in Ottawa and Peterborough. London’s defender Sam Dickinson won Player of the Month and Defenceman of the Month.

The Knights are set to face the Oshawa Generals in an OHL Championship Series rematch on Friday, December 6, at Canada Life Place. The Generals, with 14 players returning from last year’s team that lost to the Knights in the final, are sure to provide a competitive game.
