The popularity of British rock band, Coldplay, remains strong in Hong Kong as fans experienced long wait times in a virtual line for early bird tickets to an extra concert. This surge in demand has seen fans waiting in the queue for a minimum of half an hour when tickets for the additional performance became available.
A Hong Kong resident, Rachel Ball, expressed her delight on managing to secure tickets for the additional concert scheduled for April 8. This came after numerous unsuccessful attempts for tickets to other dates. Ball shared her experience of the ticket purchasing system, stating, “I perceived slight improvements in the system this time. The estimated waiting time was over an hour, but access was granted after about 40 minutes.”
Live Nation, the local promoter, along with Coldplay, acknowledged the ‘extraordinary demand’ last week and declared an additional concert date in Hong Kong. This is in addition to the already scheduled concerts on April 9, 11, and 12.
Like previous ticket sales, an artist presale session was offered to fans who had earlier registered on Coldplay’s official website, giving them priority for the April 8 concert. The presale began at 3pm on Wednesday.
Ball, who had registered when the tickets for the initial three concerts were made available, shared her previous unsuccessful attempts to secure tickets. “Despite waiting for over two hours each time, I was unsuccessful in my previous attempts,” she stated.
The unprecedented demand for Coldplay tickets in Hong Kong is indicative of the band’s enduring popularity and the investment potential in the music and entertainment sector.
