A man aged 25, has been slapped with a second-degree murder charge following the tragic demise of his mother over the recent weekend. The incident involved a reported collision at Weyburn Square, situated near Sheppard Avenue and Whites Road in Pickering.
According to Durham Regional Police, officers were dispatched to the scene in the early hours of Sunday, around 5:10 a.m., following reports of a car crash. Upon their arrival, they found Sheila Hercules, 64, in a critical condition.
The gravely injured woman was subsequently rushed to a trauma centre located in Toronto. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries. The investigators, who initially suspected the collision to be the cause of her injuries, later established an assault as the actual cause.
Aidan Hercules, her 25-year-old son, was apprehended at the site of the crash. He is now facing charges of second-degree murder.
Durham police have confirmed that there are no additional suspects in this case, alleviating any concerns for public safety.
