London Knights Stage Dramatic Turnaround Versus Owen Sound, Maintaining their Victory Run – London

In the last 90 seconds of the third period, the London Knights found themselves down 2 points to the Owen Sound Attack, with a score of 3-1. However, the game took a thrilling turn when just a minute and a half later, the Knights managed to tie the game at 3-3, pushing it into an exciting overtime.

This extraordinary comeback was fueled by Kasper Halttunen and Oliver Bonk who managed to score two goals in a span of 38 seconds. Their goals came at 18:38 and then 19:16 of the final period. The Knights didn’t stop there, going on to claim a 4-3 victory in a tense shootout, extending their impressive winning streak to 13 games.

The Knights’ first point came from Logan Hawery, who took advantage of a pass from Denver Barkey, positioned behind the Owen Sound net. Hawery, a first-round pick in 2024, managed to get the puck past Los Angeles Kings draftee Carter George, giving London a 1-0 lead early in the second period.

Easton Cowan’s second assist saw him extend his regular season point streak to a formidable 53 consecutive games. Sam McCue, younger brother of former Knight Max McCue, managed to bring Owen Sound back into the game and even took the lead with two second period goals, leaving the score at 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.

McCue, currently Owen Sound’s top scorer, was not the only one to contribute to the Attack’s lead. Bruce McDonald extended their lead to 3-1 halfway through the third period. Despite a 5-on-3 power play in favor of London, Owen Sound managed to maintain their lead. However, this only heightened the drama as Halttunen and Bonk went on to score for the Knights.

The overtime saw the Knights’ Austin Elliott face two breakaways from the Attack. He successfully stopped Pierce Mbuyi and forced Bruce McDonald to shoot wide. The climax of the game came when Will Nicholl passed to Halttunen who aimed at an empty side of the net. George, in a desperate move, managed to block the shot.

In the shootout, Cowan and Jacob Julien scored for London, while Elliott successfully blocked four out of five attempts. The Knights dominated the third period with 18 shots compared to the Attack’s four, and outperformed Owen Sound 38-24 overall in the game.

Despite their success, the Knights were unable to capitalize on their power play opportunities, going 0-for-5. However, the Attack fared slightly better, going 1-for-3.

Looking ahead, the Knights will face the Saginaw Spirit in mid-Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 23, marking their second game in a three-day span. The Knights and Saginaw have evenly split their two meetings this year, with each team securing a win on the opponent’s home turf. London has been showing a strong performance, winning 16 out of their last 17 games.

The only loss in that impressive run was to the Spirit on Oct. 18 at Canada Life Place. Coverage will start at 6:30 p.m., on 980 CFPL, at www.980cfpl.ca and on the iHeart Radio and Radioplayer Canada apps.
