In a few weeks, music sensation Taylor Swift is set to conclude her globally successful Eras tour at BC Place. This visit is not just anticipated to boost local tourism significantly, but also to serve as a massive helping hand for numerous local charities.
Vancouver-based host and auctioneer, Fred Lee, revealed to Global News how impactful this tour has been for charitable causes. According to Lee, since the commencement of the charitable season this fall, a multitude of charities have been beneficiaries of tickets donated by BC Place and their community initiative, the hosts of the three concerts.
Lee further explained how BC Place and its community initiative have been donating tickets to charities across British Columbia, enabling them to gather much-needed funds. The initiative has received an incredible response, as per his observations.
Thanks to the benevolence of the attendees, the auction of tickets has generated substantial funds ranging from $10,000 to $44,000 for a pair of tickets, and even up to $320,000 for a suite. These funds are being directed towards supporting local charities, having an enormous impact on various sectors such as health foundations, arts and culture, and youth support.
Among the charities benefitting from the ‘Swift effect’ are the UBC Hospital Foundation, BC Children’s Hospital, Big Sisters, and Inspire Health. Whenever something related to Swift is auctioned, there is always a surge of excitement and anticipation, adds Lee.
But it’s not just the charities that are gaining from Swift’s visit. Durriya Rehan, owner of Fine Finds Boutique, anticipates that small businesses will also benefit from this event. She expresses her excitement at the prospect of increased tourism, which she believes will be beneficial for the economy and small businesses, especially amidst the economic recession.
This year, instead of the annual outdoor festival CandyTown in Yaletown, retailers are hosting Taylor Town, featuring numerous Swift-related activities, food, and drinks. The excitement surrounding Swift’s concerts, which will span over three days, is comparable to the buzz during the 2010 Winter Olympics, adds Rehan.
