The opening quarter of the football game saw its first score with less than five minutes remaining. Zach Collaros, the quarterback for the Winnipeg team, connected with Kenny Lawler in a deep crosser, resulting in a 31-yard touchdown. This gave the Bombers an early boost with a 7-0 lead.
In their subsequent possession, the dynamic duo of Collaros and Lawler pulled off a few more successful plays. A massive 65-yard throw down the right sideline was followed by another connection between the two, with Lawler wide open for a 24-yard touchdown. This put the Bombers further ahead with an impressive 14-0 lead.
The Riders made a commendable effort to score a touchdown in their next drive, but a deep post pattern to KeeSean Johnson fell short, and they had to settle for a 40-yard field goal by Brett Lauther, reducing their deficit to 11.
The Saskatchewan team also managed a significant play on a blocked punt by Caleb Sanders. However, the Winnipeg defense held strong, and the Riders had to settle for another 33-yard Lauther field goal.
The Winnipeg offense continued its momentum, with Terry Wilson managing a quarterback sneak for 48 yards, setting the Bombers up for another score. The drive concluded with a six-yard connection from Collaros to Nic Demski. At the halfway mark of the second quarter, the Bombers were a commanding 21-6 ahead.
Saskatchewan managed to claw back three points before halftime, thanks to a 44-yard Lauther field goal. However, Winnipeg immediately responded with a 30-yard field goal from Sergio Castillo, leaving the score at 24-9 in favor of the Bombers at halftime.
In the third quarter, AJ Ouellette managed to score a one-yard touchdown for Saskatchewan, reducing the gap. However, the Bombers were relentless, with Kenny Lawler scoring three touchdowns in total, including a 57-yard score from a Collaros pass down the left sideline.
In the final quarter, Brady Oliveira scored a touchdown from three yards out, sealing the victory for Winnipeg. Saskatchewan’s Sam Emilus managed a late touchdown in the final minute, but it wasn’t enough. The Bombers emerged victorious with a final score of 38-22, securing their fifth consecutive Grey Cup appearance, where they’ll face the Toronto Argonauts.
