President Biden will welcome President-elect Trump into the Oval Office on Wednesday, as stated in the White House’s announcement on Saturday.

The scheduled meeting is set for 11 a.m. local time, as per the statement issued by Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

The invitation for the meeting was extended by President Biden.

This kind of meeting is a traditional occurrence between the outgoing president and the incoming president and it symbolizes the beginning of a peaceful transition of power in America’s democracy. However, Trump did not host a meeting with Biden after the 2020 election, when Trump lost his reelection bid.

Trump, who was the 45th president of the U.S., will be the second president to serve two non-consecutive terms, becoming the nation’s 47th president. The only other president to do the same was Grover Cleveland, who served as the 22nd and 24th president.

Trump secured the presidential election on Tuesday with at least 301 electoral college votes, exceeding the 270-vote threshold over Vice President Kamala Harris.

In a speech delivered on Thursday, Biden stated that he had assured Trump “that I would direct my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition. That’s what the American people deserve.”
