North Edmonton Businesses Suffer Window Destruction Rampage by Vandal – Edmonton

In North Edmonton, numerous businesses are currently dealing with the aftermath of an early morning vandalism spree that occurred this past Tuesday. A series of property damages was reported, including smashed windows, with local businesses having to undertake clean-up and repair efforts.

The incident reportedly occurred around 6:30 a.m. when a man was spotted breaking several windows of businesses at the intersection of 97th Street and 132nd Avenue. The vandal didn’t spare any corner of the intersection, damaging properties on all four corners.

Among the businesses that were impacted include Northgate Chevrolet Buick GMC and Landmark Mazda, both car dealerships. At both locations, large panes of glass were shattered. In fact, a Mazda employee revealed that about 30 windows were destroyed and a sledgehammer, presumably the tool used in the vandalism, was found in the middle of the showroom floor.

Footage obtained by Global News shows the man methodically walking along the windows and smashing each one with the sledgehammer.

Another business that suffered extensive damage was a local Tim Hortons, where 14 windows were smashed. The estimated cost to replace the broken glass is around $25,000. This is particularly disheartening for the store that had just completed renovations in August.

The vandalism spree took place during the morning rush hour, and there were customers present at the coffee shop at the time. Fearing the vandal might enter the premises, some staff members reportedly barricaded themselves in a backroom.

Other businesses targeted in the spree include an A&W restaurant, a Scotiabank branch, and a Dulux Paints store. Staff members at the A&W also reported taking cover when the glass started shattering.

Authorities have since apprehended a suspect in connection with the incident, and charges are pending. The total estimate of damages is still being calculated.

We will continue to provide updates on this story as more information becomes available.
