Hong Kong’s Halloween Celebrations Attract Massive Crowds to Lan Kwai Fong, Reviving Nostalgia for the Past

On a recent Thursday night, an influx of party-goers donning creative and often fear-inducing costumes took to the streets of Lan Kwai Fong, a well-known entertainment district in Hong Kong, to revel in Halloween festivities. However, not all business owners in the area were satisfied with their earnings for the night.

The Hong Kong police estimated the crowd size to be around 25,000. However, Allan Zeman, chairman of the Lan Kwai Fong Group, expressed his belief that the number could go as high as 60,000. In fact, his office reported to the Post that the previous year, the crowd size had surpassed 50,000.

As the night wore on, the area was teeming with thousands of Halloween enthusiasts by 9 pm, causing movement to slow to a near standstill. To manage the crowd, police implemented a system that allowed people to move in only one direction and exit through nearby Wyndham Street.
