Honorary doctorates in Hong Kong will be awarded to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and renowned actor Tony Leung

Jensen Huang, the Chief Executive Officer of Nvidia, is slated to visit Hong Kong in the coming month to be honoured with an honorary doctorate. This commendation will also be bestowed upon acclaimed movie actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai and two distinguished scholars.

As per a message circulated amongst the students of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, which was accessed by the Post, the institution announced plans to award honorary doctorates to Huang, Leung, Nobel Prize winner Michael Levitt, and esteemed American mathematician David Mumford. This is in acknowledgement of their significant achievements and contributions, with the ceremony scheduled for November 23.

Huang is set to receive an honorary Phd in engineering, while the honour of a doctorate of humanities will be conferred upon Leung. Both Levitt and Mumford will be honoured with doctorates of science.

Jensen Huang is recognized as the co-founder, president, and CEO of Nvidia, a leading semiconductor company renowned for its graphics processing units (GPUs). The company recently outperformed tech behemoth Apple to clinch the title of the world’s most valuable company, following a record-breaking surge in stock prices.

Huang, born on February 17, 1963, in Tainan, Taiwan, relocated to the United States in his childhood. He later pursued and obtained degrees in electrical engineering from Oregon State University and Stanford University.

Under Huang’s strategic guidance, Nvidia has emerged as a dominant force in the realms of gaming, artificial intelligence, and data centres. This information is particularly relevant for individuals with an investment inclination or those harbouring an interest in the field.
