The esteemed Stanford professor, known as the “AI Godmother”, Fei-Fei Li, has successfully garnered a whopping $230 million funding for her latest venture, World Labs. The funding round saw the participation of high-profile investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, NEA, and Radical Ventures.
World Labs, now valued at over a billion dollars, managed to raise the investment over two funding rounds that took place within a few months of each other, according to a report by TechCrunch in August.
The innovative startup led by Li, targets to roll out its inaugural product by 2025. The core objective is to create AI models capable of comprehending and interacting with the 3D world. World Labs is devoted to developing what it terms as “large world models”, which will be leveraged by professionals from various fields, including artists, designers, developers, and engineers. Andreessen Horowitz’s general partner, Martin Casado, hinted to Wired that World Labs’ client base could extend to game companies or film studios.
For those considering investments or simply interested in AI advancements, this venture offers a glimpse into the future of AI, blending creativity and technology in unique ways, without making investment the primary focus of this piece.
